Cheboksary (Russian: Чебокса́ры, pronounced Cheboksary) is a city in Russia named after the Cheboksarka River in 1469. This port city is located on the right bank of the Volga River, at the intersection with the Cheboksarka River.
There is also a theory suggesting that the city was originally founded in 1236 and was named Suvar Middle (Chuvash).

However, the river is frozen from December to April, limiting navigation during this period.
